Our popular Reception schemes just got better. After feedback from teachers, we’ve created a new scheme of learning that makes nurturing early maths skills even easier.
We’re still focusing on number recognition, counting, patterns and all the other key features of Reception maths, but in a way that provides more structure and guidance for early years teachers.
We’ve taken the “small steps” approach to learning that is a feature of other White Rose schemes and adapted it for Reception maths.
The Reception year is broken down into manageable blocks, and every block is divided into a series of small steps.
Each step builds on the last. It all adds up to a comprehensive early maths education for children right at the start of their school journey.
The scheme has been carefully designed to promote numeracy skills in an engaging and positive way. We want children to have fun with maths and teachers to always have the resources they need to hand.
Reception age children learn best when learning is fun, hands-on and practical.
Our new Reception maths scheme introduces counting, number patterns and simple number problems in a natural, supportive way.
We use games and songs and other learning methods to help children explore numbers and discover how fascinating they can be.
By doing so, we give Reception age children the confidence to develop crucial skills and knowledge.
The White Rose Reception scheme is made to let teachers teach. We provide the resources. Teachers provide the inspiration.
The result is a year of engaging activities to encourage every child’s learning in maths.
The scheme offers creative and practical ways to introduce new concepts, including activities and play-based end of block checkpoints. Where necessary, new activities are explained in full in supporting slides. There are also printable resources for teachers to display in the classroom.
Our updated Reception scheme offers the same progressive approach to early maths development, but inside a clearer and more coherent structure.
It adds new ideas and inspiration, and it makes early years maths teaching a joy.
For children, the scheme provides a playful and natural way to explore concepts around counting, adding up, subtraction, shapes and more. Graphics are colourful and fun. Activities are designed to engage young learners.
For teachers, this is a complete scheme of work that supports them in making sure children achieve early learning goals.
It offers creative ways to introduce new concepts, and easy-to-organise activities that help those concepts stick. It comes with all the notes, guidance and cross-referencing teachers need.
The Reception schemes will be available free of charge. Supporting premium resources will be included as part of any infant or primary subscription. An individual subscription to Reception will be available at the usual cost for an individual subscription.
Autumn resources will be released in early June. More autumn content will follow between June and August, meaning all content for the whole of the autumn term will be available when school starts in September. Spring content will be released between October and December, with summer materials added from February to April 2024.
