White Rose Maths have been delivering many sessions up and down the country to many Primary schools for over a year now. By popular demand we have combined two of the sessions to create a full day of insights and inspiration.
Reasoning and problem solving skills are high on the agenda in schools but it is important to not forget about the basics! Whilst conceptual knowledge is crucial, often the biggest gaps in attainment are held in a lack of knowledge of basic facts. This course takes a look at the importance of flexibility and how this can help close the gap between our higher and lower attaining children. With the upcoming times table tests in year 4, the course looks at how we can support our children to become fluent and possess a deeper understanding in their multiplication knowledge.
Reasoning and Problem Solving
Reasoning and Problem Solving are two of the key aims of the National Curriculum. In this course, we focus on how to develop reasoning for all students by using stem sentences and concrete and pictorial models to support explanations. We examine why some students struggle with problem solving, and how we can overcome these issues through the use of goal-free problems and enabling prompts. Using practical examples, we investigate how to support and challenge all learners within problem solving, giving delegates a variety of activities to take back to the classroom.
