CPA, Mathematical Talk & Questioning, Planning for Depth and Reasoning & Problem Solving (London Day 1 + 2) KS1/KS2

Until now, White Rose Maths has been delivering 5 key Jigsaw Twilights up, down and around the UK.

By popular demand we have combined two Primary courses together to create an extended morning and afternoon version available for full day training.

We are pleased to offer you the option of booking two full days, at a reduced cost of £286.20 + VAT.

Day 1 – Tuesday 11 December

The morning session delivers content to make you consider…

Concrete – Pictorial – Abstract

Concrete manipulatives are fundamental to the powerful Concrete-Pictorial- Abstract (CPA) approach and are a key resource in developing a deep understanding of maths for pupils of all ages. This hands-on course will look at how concrete resources can be used across the curriculum to introduce a topic and create firm foundations of understanding. Building on the concrete, we will look at the transition into pictorial and abstract focusing on how and why abstract methods work. In this session, we will look at the versatility of resources and how a few key resources can support learning across the curriculum.

The afternoon session delivers…

Mathematical Talk and Questioning

Have you ever asked students to talk about their learning then found they quickly go off task? Getting students talking about maths can be difficult but it is an essential part of embedding learning.  This session will help teachers put structures and routines in place in their classroom so that meaningful talk can take place.  In addition, this course looks at how to enhance a teacher’s questioning skills and how to plan questions that challenge students and deepen their understanding.  The session is practical, thought-provoking and equip teachers to put what they learn into practice the very next day.

The day is suitable for:

KS1

Lower KS2

Upper KS2

Day 2 – Wednesday 12 December 2018

The morning session delivers content to make you consider…

Planning for Depth

What do teachers think about when they plan a lesson? ‘What resources should I use?’ ‘What activities do I want the students to do?’ How often do we think ‘what do I want students to think about?’ ‘How many different methods are there to solve the problem?’ This course looks at procedural variation to challenge students and deepen their understanding. The workshops are practical, thought-provoking and equip teachers to put what they learn into practice the very next day.

The afternoon session delivers…

Reasoning and Problem Solving

The three key elements of fluency, reasoning, and problem solving are examined in detail in this  course for primary school teachers and leaders. We look at how teachers can weave all three elements together to build a maths curriculum which challenges and supports all learners. Using practical examples and a range of resources we will enable delegates to ensure rich, problem solving tasks are accessible to all pupils.

The day is suitable for:

KS1

Lower KS2

Upper KS2
