White Rose Maths have been delivering 5 key Jigsaw twilights to primary schools up, down and around the UK.
By popular demand we have combined two Primary courses together to create an extended morning and afternoon version available for full day training.
Concrete – Pictorial – Abstract Methods
Concrete manipulatives are fundamental to the powerful Concrete-Pictorial- Abstract (CPA) approach and are a key resource in developing a deep understanding of maths for pupils of all ages. This hands-on course will focus on how concrete resources can be used to develop children’s conceptual understanding of place value and the four operations. Building on the concrete, we consider how we can make connections between concrete, pictorial and abstract ideas so children can truly master concepts, building on strong foundations.
Reasoning and Problem Solving
Reasoning and Problem Solving are two of the key aims of the National Curriculum. In this course, we focus on how to develop reasoning for all students by using stem sentences and concrete and pictorial models to support explanations. We examine why some students struggle with problem solving, and how we can overcome these issues through the use of goal-free problems and enabling prompts. Using practical examples, we investigate how to support and challenge all learners within problem solving, giving delegates a variety of activities to take back to the classroom.
