CPA and Planning for Depth (London Day 1) KS1/KS2

White Rose Maths have been delivering 5 key Jigsaw twilights to primary schools up, down and around the UK.

By popular demand we have combined two Primary courses together to create an extended morning and afternoon version available for full day training.

Concrete – Pictorial – Abstract Methods

Concrete manipulatives are fundamental to the powerful Concrete-Pictorial- Abstract (CPA) approach and are a key resource in developing a deep understanding of maths for pupils of all ages. This hands-on course will focus on how concrete resources can be used to develop children’s conceptual understanding of place value and the four operations. Building on the concrete, we consider how we can make connections between concrete, pictorial and abstract ideas so children can truly master concepts, building on strong foundations.

Planning for Depth

This session focuses on how teachers can plan to ensure that all students develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. Focusing on variation, this thought-provoking session looks at how teachers can consider every aspect of a topic in order to develop strong foundations of understanding for their students. Covering many areas of the curriculum, the session focuses on the underlying structures behind the Mathematics and how to plan for these in a practical and accessible way.

The day is suitable for:

KS1

Lower KS2

Upper KS2
