In this session, we explore two types of variation in depth – conceptual and procedural. You will gain a clear awareness of the different types of knowledge and how this awareness can help when structuring mathematical tasks for children to explore. Through the use of variation, we discover how we can deepen pupils’ thinking skills and support them in coming to accurate generalisations that they can independently apply in various contexts.

This session provides particular value as it brings together many of the key points raised in the other Jigsaw sessions and allows you to reflect on how the other elements of the package work in harmony with each other to improve mathematical understanding across the school.
