The brilliant work they produce to help millions of teachers, pupils and parents to embrace maths is no mean feat. It takes all kinds of people across multiple departments to make the White Rose Maths magic happen, and we think it's time to celebrate the many different individuals who are all making a difference.
Are you ready? Let's Meet the team at White Rose Maths!
Over the coming weeks, you'll get to know some of the folks behind the scenes working hard on our resources, CPD training and more. Not just a face to the name, you'll get to know a bit about each one of our incredible team - their responsibilities, what they like about their role and a personal insight or two!
OK then, who is our first team member to meet?
I am a Lead Maths Specialist, working predominantly within the primary school team. Over the past 18 months, my main responsibility has been leading the Home Learning project, which has seen us release over 1,300 video resources to support children from EYFS through to Year 11.
One of the best things about working for White Rose Maths is that there is no typical day! My role is so varied, which means I get to do many different things during a week. A large part of my role currently involves creating and reviewing the many maths resources we release, such as the home learning videos, our free schemes of learning, and our premium worksheets. But then I also get to go out and about, delivering CPD to staff in schools and tutoring pupils.
That’s a tough question! It’s hard to pick just one thing. I absolutely love maths, so spending all of my time focusing on the subject is one of the main reasons I was keen to join the White Rose Maths team. But, like most teachers, I got into the profession to help children, and this role allows me to do so not only locally but across the entire world! To think my support goes way beyond 30 children in my classroom is an extraordinary feeling. I’m not going to lie, though; I had little chance of visiting places like Dubai and Malaysia as part of my job before I joined White Rose Maths, so that is a definite perk!
I’m hugely competitive, so any game with a competitive element will always be enjoyable for me! I like that it allows me to compete with myself to improve. And practice does make perfect, as I can see my scores improving with every go. You can also encourage friendly competition across groups, among classmates or even work colleagues - we have competitions within our team! So, as well as a learning tool, 1-Minute Maths provides lots of fun.
I would love to learn a language! Some of my family are bi-lingual, and I am always slightly envious when I hear them speak another language. COVID has also made me realise how much I love travelling, and I can’t wait to get back on a plane – hopefully, I will be able to speak the language of the places I visit.
I'd still be working for White Rose Maths, of course! It doesn't feel like work most of the time, and it brings me so much enjoyment. It would just be great to work remotely from a beach somewhere – perhaps in New Zealand, Australia or Thailand. A place in the sun!
